Singapore Expats

Just about to start off on the relocation train.... wondering if you had any items you paid to ship over to Singapore that now you wish you hadn't bothered with?

Any thoughts VERY welcome!

A fleeting memory! I was just thinking the same 40 years ago! I would have had a much better time back then if I hadn't shipped her over, this place is a single mans paradise! Close to many options.

Moving swiftly on - Jeans, cold weather clothes. Knew I wouldn't need them here but they've been in a box for over a year now!

A 20L Brabantia kitchen bin! I didn't want to bring it but Mrs S insisted!

Mrs S did want to bring our old electric blanket at one stage!

We brought ours too

All our winter stuff, ended up ebaying it all and as you can imagine got peanuts for them here.

I walked in through Changi with one suitcase, one briefcase and a Kirby Morgan band-mask in a padded bag and that was it. It's the trip back that scares me, after being here almost 3 decades!

I wish we had shipped over the winter stuff - as it was being stored in a relative's roofspace which got damp and it all went mouldy and had to be thrown away.

There are a few times that I've had to go back home (or elsewhere) during winter and had to buy a few things. But whether or not you get rid of it I suppose depends on how much of the stuff you've got, if it is lots of jumpers and coats then maybe just keep a few things that you really like for when you need it.

Trouble is though, it can get smelly here (damp, mildew smell) so you need to have stuff which washes OK (some coats don't wash well if they're waterproof).

Stuff we wish we hadn't brought - photos maybe - they're all in a dry cabinet so they're OK but nobody ever looks at them because of that so we might as well have left them behind (maybe I should get one of those a/c storage places for them).

an oversized washing machine. didn't realise that unfirnished meant the white goods were staying....

Lots of small ornaments. We brought our bin and its very useful. Winter clothes is good for our holidays to cooler climates.

So no small things that will look pretty.......wrap them up and store or sell, charity shop etc etc.
Wine Glasses are expensive here and they break.

if you don't want it i'll have it (kidding) it's just that we had one (gift from mother in law, only MIL can give you a bin as a gift...)

I threw it out before coming over here, but my MIL asked whether i kept it, i lied and said i shipped it over to singapore...

In fact if I remember we binned almost all our clothes/shoes both winter and summer after getting here. New life new wardrobe.
