Singapore Expats

We've just the go ahead for relocating to Singapore this summer. My son, 14, has a place at Tanglin Senior School and my husband will be working in offices near Changi.

Would anyone advise me on the best areas to look for an apartment/condo (what is the difference anyway??) We do not plan on having a car, so transport for my husband is a priority along with a school bus.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

personally, you are better off staying near the school. as long as it is near the MRT, your husband should be fine going to changi.

have you done any research as where are the locations? and check www.singaporeexpats.com for rentals? anywhere in singapore is nice. once you do some viewing, you will get a better idea and feel of the location.

If your son gets to school by school bus, he'll be in for quite along and jammy ride to and from Tanglin if you decide to live near Changi.

Your husband, on the other hand, should be fine getting to work by MRT if you decide to live closer to Tanglin, seeing that it's a straight line to Changi.

I live in the East and I love the proximity to the sea. But in your case I'd advise that you look for a place near the Queenstown area. Generally more pricey there though.

Apartment and condo is pretty much the same. Although strictly speaking apartment can be HDB too, i.e. public housing, rather than private.

i have heard stories of parents living at opposite ends to the school and the kid has to wait for the school bus pick up at 6.30am!

Our pick-up was at 7.10am. We took it in our stride. But the drive itself was long, stifling (as in, no aircon) and awful; the roads were jammed up everywhere. Not a good way to start a schoolday.

So, yeah, hence our recommendation to live not too far from school.
