Singapore Expats

Hi Guys,

Need your help here. I've been a PR in Singapore for 5 years and has always been employed since day 1. However, I declared bankruptcy 2 years ago and my debts are not really that big. we're talking about less than 30 K.

What are the chances of my citizenship being denied or approved ? I have no criminal records and always been employed but shit happens that's why I became a self decalred bankrupt.

I undersand that they look at your financial well being as one of the requirements, but I have always been employed with a good salary and, CPF and can support myself. Would they look the amount I have in my bank account?


Should I settle my banruptcy debts before I apply or should I just give it a try ? If it gets denied once, would it be the end ?

Please do give me some advices. Thank you.

Since you have been a PR for 5 years has your re-entry permit been renewed?

By the way if you are from PK consider yourself lucky for getting PR.

since you say it is not very big (less than 30k)
then clear your debt first

I will renew my re entry permit next month since it's my 5th year.Will my status as an undischarged bankrupt affect this too? If they can't give me another 5 years then how can I settle my debts? They cannot touch my cpf savings under the law.

Note that I am gainfully employed since day 1. Contributing to cpf and no criminal records whatsoever. I heard that your re entry permit won't get renewed if you are jobless or you would be given 2 years or so.

I have records and proof that I am making payments towards my discharge. I got a reply from ICA that I can try, and its based on merits and have complied to the requirements.

So I guess the obvious reply now is....

Well, why are you here? Especially if ICA said go ahead. You think we know something that ICA don't?

OK, so I sitll have some hope on the renewal of my re entry permit. Like what you said, making re payments and being gainfully employed should be a ultimate must do.

Once I become discharged, would that affect my citizenship application ?

Hi bro/sis I am also spr I am planning to go to self declare bankrupt I would like to know what is your outcome of your pr renewal and what is the difference btw Singaporean and SPR bankrupt.
