Singapore Expats

Hi all,

I saw some nice condominiums in Geylang area.
There is one near the Aljuneid MRT, Geylang East area; maybe 100 meters from it.

Can someone tell me the changes of being pestered by the night workers?
I saw quite a few expat and local families living there but still need to get a view from people who know this region well.

How is the area in general? There seems to be a security guard and active management council and the vicinity is kept very clean!

I had friends who lived in a condo near Aljunied - it could very well be the same place. They didn't seem to have any issues with the area, it could be a bit noisy at times with the temples nearby but so far as a red light area goes, they said that wasn't a problem.

I got in a cab once on Geylang Rd after visiting them and the first thing the cabbie asked me was if I was lost

Nightlife and food are both excellent - as to "the other stuff" that's really up to you. I have a friend (female, Singaporean) who lives there and she loves it.

Living in Geylang is fine actually. You'll be a little apprehensive at first, but quickly get used to it. The husband has been approached once or twice by working girls when he was walking home alone at night (but they don't pester if you brush them off), and I get quite a few stares from the "uncles" who hang out in the coffeeshops there, but you get immune to it. You'll never run out of local food options and it's really quite colourful here!

Been eating there twice in the last 2/3 weeks and very few "ladies" on the street. Same in Joo Chiat Rd. Some-one told me the police have had a clean up in time for YOG

Only selected area in Geylang has got this issue.
If you are at Geylang East, I do not think you will have any issue.

That area is near the Methodist schools and library. Pretty quiet.

Late reply, sorry. The thing to keep in mind is that district 14 may be harder to raise financing for from a local bank. Some banks apply restrictions on what they will lend in the area, and this is before the most recent changes to property came in. The area has been traditionally associated with the red light district and many locals are less likely to buy there, so if the bank ends up with your property to resell it will may be harder.

I was wondering if you meant the established condo just beside the mrt line, or the new yet to be built condo across the road?
