I read in the new paper Friday that a taxi cab driver was charged with “molestation”

I doubt that kissing a girl while being hired as a taxi driver constitutes a proper format for asking a stranger out for a date. Hell, even in the best of situations, you wouldn't kiss a stranger before being invited to do so. As it was the taxi driver who asked her to move to the front of the taxi, I would have to think that the driver knew damned well what he was doing. Let's face it, having a vocational license to drive a taxi does not give license to physically have contact with a paying customer unless expressly invited to do so.

I admit that it was a little tacky even thou it was on the hand but it just doesnt seem to be worthy of criminal charges.

some people get very offended very, very easily.

Don't forget for a moment that Singapore is often known for it's draconian laws and excessive punishments.

Maybe so but all the same many women would find such a move very intrusive and carrying the overtones of something more. Although I am a man I dislike other people, particularly other males slapping me on the back or grabbing my arm when I have worked amongst the public as if I am some kind of object - bloody cheek!

The Cabby just been sent down for 2 weeks, apparantly it's not the first time he's been done for this!

No wonder the woman was outraged; guy looks like a total sleazebag. If he looked like Johnny Depp, maybe he could've gotten away with it. And this loser did it to a woman who has a cop boyfriend.

Chiming in because I saw the "O" word and it reminded me of something I saw elsewhere a while back.

This case aside, and re SMS's comment, whatever it is, call it what it is. Molestation is an ugly word for an ugly act, when it actually happens.

The term I learned here that still has me reeling is "outraged his/her modesty", which I read in the ST about a similar accusation.

Again, ugly act if it happens, Victorian choice of words to describe it. If I eve join a punk band I'm gonna call it "Modesty Outrage". Sounds like Bond character.

I totally agree with you on this one.

Pretty surprised at the poor English in this newspaper, can't the "gahmen" pay for better editors? Seeing as how they're behind the rest of the paper.
