I've browsed the archives on this topic but didn't find the specific answer to (most of) my questions.

First, I wonder if anyone has asked for vaccines without thimerosol here? If so, would you please share where this was?

Rotavirus- Has anyone's children's come down with this nasty virus? My son had it when I lived in Japan when he was an infant. There was no vaccine for it then. However some pig virus has been found in the dna of the vaccine of both companies who manufacture it. Anybody else hear of this and up to date with any current information on it?

Hep B- Like others who have posted, I usually delay vaccinations until 3-4 months old. Our doctor is urging the hep B though and has my husband convinced its for good reason. Since it's transmitted primarily sexually/exchange of bodily fluids, or by infected mom at birth, I don't see the rush. However, I would like to know if anybody is aware if this is one of the vaccination requirements for domestic helpers here?

Polio- Is only the live oral vaccine available here or can you get the injection?

Has anybody had any adverse side effects from the vaccines here?

Finally, any good pediatrician recommendations- preferably in the North/Woodlands/Sembawang/Yishun area, but all good experiences appreciated.

Actually more to the point RE: Hep B is whether anyone knows if domestic helpers are screened for this?

Well I got the answer to one of my questions by calling a local clinic. They do not screen domestic workers for Hep B, so if we want her tested we have to ask her and take her ourselves.

Most GPs are not that bad and cheaper

My 17 month old has had all of these injections and had no side affects, including more recently the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine. Polio was given orally, I didn't even think to ask if it came as injection, I just went with what the Dr recommended (Dr E K Ong, was at Thomson now has his own practice at Mount Elizabeth).

My son recently had his booster shots here at a doc in Holland Village. One was polio and that was given by injection. It was a combined shot, with HIB, Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus. Quite a cocktail!

In the meantime, we told our helper we'd like to have her tested for Hep B and she has no problem with it. She said she had a vaccine for it 5 years ago but probably needs another one. She also said it is part of her health check every 6 months, which doesn't make sense since the clinic I called is the clinic she goes to and they told me that domestic workers are not tested for it

Anyway, I do plan on starting the vaccinations soon.
