Singapore Expats

Hi all,

I have a company in Europe that is doing very well and we are looking to open a Singapore branch --I have been over a few times and the opportunity is there.

Problem is our Lawyers in Singapore says as CEO--I have to have a degree ----You would have knocked back Alan Sugar and countless other successes--does anyone know a way around this-??I was thinking of a degree based on life experience ? any advicew would be appreciated.

Find a local partner. Invest as a Private Limited Company. Your company secretary can be your partner. Do not put yourself as a CEO rather company director. Do it as separate entity from your Europe branch

I think your lawyers are full of it. Ask them to quote statute and citation.

In any event, 'managing director' is the more common title of the person in charge, as MS has noted.

I assume that you are going the route of registering a foreign company in Singapore? Most of the MNC's that operate here are private limited companies, wholly owned by the mother ship. I think this is what MS was alluding to when talking about setting up a Pte Ltd... pick up a local director, shares owned by your Europe company, your Singapore company applies for an employment pass for you, as a director, and MD.

Health Insurance

Is it all inclusive --I had some serious opertaions last year but now given all Ok and on know medication--Will I get health cover ?

Criminal records --I have only traffic offenses but one of my people was fined for swearing at a pliceman in England in 97--Do we have to provide proof of no criminal convictions ?

Scout around for company secretary, they will have lawyers for you to talk to . No obligation as long as you did not sign on the dotted line.
For Health Insurance, no ,you are not covered , you have to get your own Health Insurance. The Government Insurance Scheme i.e Medishield and Medisave are for those that contribute CPF. A portion of the Pension Fund will be put aside to this health scheme.
There are a few Health Insurance Companies from GE , NTUC , AIG etc

Petty crime best to leave it as it was. Unless you have been incarcerated then you need to declare. No, you do not need to proof you have no crime if it is petty crime.

For potential business partner, sorry I cannot help you as I am not aware of your business entity etc look at below the profile button, the search button and type what you are looking for. Read and absorb all those posts

Traffic offences/petty crime no need to declare or it must be declared ?--

Crime in SG is interpreted into two category. Serious or Petty

Traffic offence is a crime but it is petty as it does not involve bodily injury until you knock someone down and it gets messy and then it will be consider as serious crime not on the traffic offense but using the vehicle you drive to cause grievious harm or bodily injury resulting in death or injury
So if it is just traffic offense leave it out, if it is more than that you need to declare. At the end of the day, the vetting agency will target more of phedophile, drugs trafficking, rape, murder that range of crime
