International shipment for household

Dear all, please give me some suggestions ~
I am moving out of SG (to beijing China) and I am looking into the method and cost for moving my personal stuff. no furniture, mostly books and cloths. I m thinking about sea shipment~~ anyone have any idea about which company i should go to and how they gonna charge for it?

Everything else will cost more!
(Unless you ship a whole container, but without furniture I think that's unlikely.)

Hi Alicia, If it around 2-3 boxes better to use DHL/FedEx

If it less than 1 metre cubic or M3 they call it, go for LCL freight via Hong Kong or direct by sea. Much cheaper than DHL or Fedex.
DHL has a limit of 25kg on Jimbo box. Will cost you about $350.00 on retail then . Not sure now.
If thru account $250.00
1 m3 will cost about $500.00 Shop around for freight company that can do that. Shipment time 5 days on ocean

Just a few boxes? Maybe better to pay for excess baggage @ the airport?

Well the excess baggage is about $13.00 per kg if I am not wrong. Go figure !!

no no....seriously....it is better to just check it in. China is too tough....my friends told me that it takes about 1-2 months just to get the documentation ready. so i figured that if anyone asks me, i will say, if only 4-5 boxes, better to pay for excess baggage. you get it immediately!

This is really BS. I have been sending and receiving stuff from Mainland China with no problemo. Yeah right "your friend said the other friend said that actually no one did "You thought China is in Ice Age. well think again.
