Hello,

I am trying to source contractors for an office I am opening in Singapore. I pulled a few random names from yellow pages but the quotes are ridiculous and clearly they are more interested in high end "design concepts" rather than just putting up a bit of partitioning and running a bit of cable. As I am on a budget can anybody recommend a decent contractor who can do the work without going all designer on me?

The simplest method is the office partition, that SE posted. Though if you are looking for a plasterboard wall, door frame and door, you should contact FoodXchange contractor he specialises in renovation work for factory units. I cannot give you the number until Monday.

Though its very easy to knock up a stud wall partition yourself, the electric cable will have to be done by an authorised electrician. Try any local joiner, rather than a handy man or a small builder, as a walled partition have standard measurement for the framework. 4 by 2 inch is the norm and is done by joiners, not builders so a builder will outsource the work to a joiner.

Get familiar with the work, so that you know you are getting value for money, spacing behind must be to the set standard with plasterboard's set at centre of the downward supports.

Once you know its been done correct, you will know how to locate the wood support behind the plasterboard for the hanging of heavier items.

I have recently set up 6 office partitions, which is much easier than doing a stud partition and probably much cheaper too. If you are on a limited budget I would go for second hand office partitions.

If you approach interior design firms, of course you will get designer price. How much do they charge you per square feet? May I know what is the ridiculous quote? I don't know where you come from but renovation is not cheap in singapore. Does it include submission to Authority?

If you want someone who can do a simple job, get a renovation contractor instead. Call ah an 97931298. He is a renovation contractor and handy man. He can do a simple job at reasonable pricing. Kindly do not abuse him, he is one of the nicest person I ever meet.

If you want cheap furniture like tables and chairs, ask me again.

Are you going to built a new building? or just a renovation?..I think all the builders in Singapore carrying out building works under Building Control Act and all builders have a license to built. Have you already tried to visit the site streetdirectory?

They have contractors in a certain area in Singapore.

I think you can get quotation from some contractors and inform them that you will also get quotes from others. This will keep the contractors on guard since there are competitions.
