I've never been one to look forward, the future has always just happened.

But now I am wondering. Where do I want to live.

Where ideally in the perfect world?

My stoned thought last night was, keep the good pad in London (sell the others), keep the SG HDB, and buy a plot of beach-front in Tioman and build a nice pad there (or pref build 3-4 and have the rest pay for your own...)


Geo-retirement opinions welcomed...

i would retire to www.nikoi.com if i could build a massive hdb block at the beach front and rent every single flat out, cheap and cheerful .

It seem so far for me, cant retire without money.Have to focus on earning more money at the moment

How much saving do we need in order to retire? How to earn more passive income?

What about Bali or say Thailand? I would prefer Thailand.. they offer some kind of retirement visa scheme.

I struggle with this daily. Unfortunately my story is not like JR8's or it would be very very different.

I have considered the US, Costa Rica, and the countryside of Japan or Okinawa. But no real answers yet.

some of the things to consider for retirement would be

1. safety

2. a peaceful serene atmosphere

3. access to good and cheap medical care

4. a bit of social life maybe?

I prefer Thailand, too.
It's got at least the 1st 3 of the things to consider.

You might need to convince other friends to go there, too, for #4.

Wife and I have been tossing around the thought on where to end up and decided to test-drive a few locations before making any final decision. I want sailing potential, she needs food and social ties.

We are thinking Thailand (Phuket, Krabi, or Jomtien, K. Chang - depending on monsoon). Then there is Langkawi or Penang to consider and maybe a few others. Along with time in Canada, that will take us several years to trial, all the while keeping the HDB here as a base.

I like Goa. We have some ties to that place as well. Its a nice beach destination just like Phuket or Bali and its slow just like Langkawi. It was a former Portuguese colony so lots of culture imbibed from them.

Do many foreigners retire in Goa?

Vs Thailand or Philippines ..or Malaysia ...
