I have found some of the sales assistants quite helpful. In Popular they have not only checked if the book I wanted was in store, but also provided me with how many copies were in the three nearest stores, if the store I was in did not have it.

Also a kid's clothing store in Paragon, called over to their Centrepoint branch right before closing time to try and secure a fairy outfit we were trying to get as a birthday present. Admittedly the Centrepoint store never answered their phone. But the people in Paragon were trying hard for us! :)

As a general comment I have found some of the Filipino/Filipina hospitality workers to be quite diligent at making sure you are attended to.

I hope this gets the ball rolling for others! :)

Amazing. Did they also allow you to pay for the book? That would be awesome :)

For me it is Canon and a small furniture company Unicane. Not a single incidents but consistently good service. That's it for a decade of daily contact with the local businesses.

Does seem like a journo type question, but this thread is a good place to lighten my guilt for never writing in and thanking this bloke.

Just complete a transaction at an HSBC branch and got home. About 30 mins later a sweaty bloke buzzed the door of my house, he was the teller from the branch, he noticed I left my credit card at the counter. Instead of putting it in the lost card system which takes days to process he decided to run over to my place during his lunch break and hand it over in person.

Surgery I underwent some time ago. I must say everything was well done, smooth etc. Unfortunately, nothing besides it.

I must just have bad luck - I routinely get overcharged or short changed here in Singapore.... just yesterday, foodcourt - $3.60 for noodles, I give the guy a $5 note, he gives me back 40 cents. In the afternoon, I go the bread shop to buy 1/2 a loaf of bread and get charged for a full loaf..... I go to the doctors clinic and get double charged (see mt elizabeth thread)..... anyway, what can u do but make sure you check everytime lah....

I`m hijacking my own thread. :D

Very unlikely they tried to cheat you (if this is your concern). It is just general lack of reliability - you have to check things like this (and dozens of other). In that sense it is very typical.

Dan Ryan's restaurant near Tanglin mall. I'm always pleasantly surprised when they actually come by and ask if you are ok and whether you need anything else.. They type of thing you take for granted in U.S., but almost never happens at a restaurant here except for very expensive ones..

Sheraton Hotel - did their lunch buffet a few weeks back. The staff were very good - greeted me with a smile, cleared my plate everytime I went up to get seconds, thirds and fourths.... kindly offered me coffee with my dessert... very good service overall and definitely worth the 10% service charged I paid.

Other restaurants I go to, they practically ignore you but still slap you with a 10% service bill..... :x

I've had a few encounters that would be considered pretty much average acceptable service in North America (although it's clearly above and beyond here...) and those are usually the places with the "Star Service' sticker on the floor at the front of the shop. I had good service at Morton's the other night, but for what we paid there, it was nothing more than expected. Still waiting for that exceptional (in a good way) customer service experience here in Singapore.

It's sad that people here seem to think that serving others is humiliating and degrading and it's the responsibility of the customer to make it as easy on them as possible. It almost makes me feel guilty for asking that I get what I paid for. :?
