So you've got the permission to marry and the first thing you think about is getting PR?

Who says love is dead

I just been told a WP holder cannot marry a resident here.

Incorrect.

They must get permission from the MOM before getting married. Everything here is via protocol. You don't follow protocol you are doomed. They will not always give permission for WP holders to marry due to the lowering of the gene pool (although that's debatable). So, it's best to ask or it will cause a lot a grief later (or you will have to immigrate to another country in order to enjoy married life).

Baseline is, if you're getting married in two days time, your whole focus and life would be concentrated on that one event.

If you're asking, 'what can we do next?, what about the visas' It's fake sister.

I hope they track your ip and come and arrest you.

Even if WP holder follows the protocol she/he is doomed too. MOM will black list her and will not allow renewal of WP. On "permission to marry" app there is a small print with signature line saying something "after signing this, I'm aware that if application for permission to marry is rejected it will be taken into account for any future WP applications or renewals". Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Happened to maid of ours, stupid me told her to follow the rules as I was under the same impression that following rules does no harm. Poor girl got banned from ever working in SG after her application got rejected.

My subordinate is a WP holder (as executive officer) and after she collected her WP card, she also received a separate white envelope with a letter inside.

The letter is from MOM stating that for her case, she is NOT required to seek permission from MOM to marry a Singaporean citizen or Singaporean PR.

I guess this exemption is selective... :-|

That is correct. She was assessed and found desirable for the gene pool here.

LOL I see...

But that's the case, since she doesn't need to seek approval like that, is PR a requisition for a WP holder AFTER being married to Singaporean? What if it expires?

Just curious, as I observed many WP/SPass/EP holders seem to be scrambling to get PR when they are considering to marry Singaporeans...

That is because if they do not become a PR, as they are married to a Singaporean, they no longer are eligible to be on a Dependent's Pass (where a LOC can be gotten to enable them to work). If they lose their EP/S/SP they end up on an LSVP instead and they cannot work on an LTVP. This means that they have to go through the entire system every time they change employers. This means they can be rejected if the employer cannot justify hiring a "foreigner".

Hope this makes sense as it's kind of hard to explain in an easy way (flow-charting would be good here! ;-) )
