Singapore Expats

Hi All

Moving to Sg in Jan 05. Need a comfortable condo with fitted kitchen, preferably not a dated construction & a nice sea view. Home allowance SG$ 5k a month. Am single, so 2 bedrooms would do nicely.Unless thats is being overly optimistic?!

Will be working in CBD but distance from work/proximity to MRT not an issue as I plan to lease a car.

Is it best to come in Dec and finalise a lease or best to come stay at a service partment and sort out things in Jan? How hard (time wise) is it to find a nice place?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

A penthouse with a sea view for SG$5K (1500 odd quid?)...life cant be bad in Sg! This really exceeds my expectations, I didnt really think that I could get that much, but now that you've said it's possible, I will leave no stone unturned to find space like that.

Whats the best place to find a good estate agent? Any reccos? Or best to just scan the listings?

Wow $5K a month for a housing allowance? Geez...what is your monthly salary to be getting that much of an allowance?? More importantly, can I get a job wherever it is you're working?

It's a generous salary by Singapore standards Ive been told, but still lower than what I currently make, but its a professional ( read long term perspective) move to work there for a cpl of years.

I work with an investment bank,I suppose you can apply, Id be happy to fwd your CV to HR. Generally look for very strong quantitative/analytical skills and a good masters degree with 4-5 years of relevant work X. So if you think you fit the bill, come on board!

I-banking huh? Yup...they sure do pay the big bucks, but they make you work for it don't they?

Thanks for the offer to forward my CV, but I'm actually in the process of negotiating an offer to relocate to Singapore from the US. Not in I-banking though, but in an IT company for a finance/operations role. Don't have a master's degree yet so I probably wouldn't fit he bill anyways, but considering an MBA in the new few years.

You want the big bucks, you have to work at it mate. Besides I love what I do, so its really not work at all, its a learning curve, been great so far. Incidentally I did MBA (finance) & B-school was one place I really had to slog my butt off. So dont shy away from working hard now that your'e starting out, get your pre MBA work x in Singapore & then go in for an MBA from a top 10 school and u'll realize that big bucks chase you
