What's the minimum wage for a Cook / Chef in Singapore?

There is no minimum wage here. I know some who only make 1600/mo

You know about them as well, huh? I have a nephew who is a local and is a cook/chef at a restaurant in the Botanic Gardens. Got some stories.

Yup... got no minimum wage here.
But i know somebody who is paid S$1.2k monthly.

YMMV but from what I gather, it's possible and there's very little room for error. You'll need to search for the monthly expenses threads already present here.

This maybe a miracle, but, beyond belief, many people make do make do with that, and many more earn almost 20 times that and still find they are 'short'

Standard of living actually depends upon the person himself.

For me, S$1.8k a month is a lot.
I only spend S$1k a month including common vices.
S$800 i would be sending back to my family abroad.

To others, S$1.8k might just be a break-even.

This is a very poor salary. You won't be able to afford anything but the cheapest apartment, probably shared, only public transportation... I doubt you could afford even a motorcycle. You won't be able to do much in the way of entertainment, and your food choices will be more limited.

I know people live on this amount, and, they must live very frugally.

Well, you should check the average salary of nurses here, for example .. and all of them make do with what they get, and with shared accomodation, they are not living like paupers ..

Because a car is completely out of range. And the salary is poor. Good IT people with 6 to 7 years experience make $6000 to $8000 per month. Really good project managers make $20,000 per month. You won't be living in a nice condo at $1800 per month. Fact.
