Hi everyone,

I had a bad fall recently and was on hospitalization leave due to a hand injury. My hospitalization leave is coming to an end, but my mc states that I need to do "light duty" for a month.

Can anyone tell me what that means? My job does not involve any lifting of things. I am usually answering emails, hosting regional conference calls and attending meetings... so I'm wondering if someone can shed some light on how much "lighter" my work can get?

I was wondering if I should go to office for half a day or just do things that do not involve typing as my hand hurts when I type. Any response would be much appreciated.

Light duties are extended to the injured hand only! So you can work okay with the other hand.

Using computer with that hand is out, as the injured hand needs recovery time, so no computer typing with that hand. Though there is no reason to stay off work, if you can help out with other functions like taking the phone, it would probably help

You must go to office full day, but if your boss asks you to clean toilet, lift heavy stuff - you can refuse .. as per doctor's advice ..

And .. yes, the parts of your body that was not affected must deliver or ask the doctor to change your MC to FULL MC

BTW, I have been confused by this Light Duty and many a doctor confirmed that it flew down from the days of issuing MC to workers and so - but they just are used to it, especially when you are an office worker ..

PS: I used to work for a good boss, who believed that if you can go to the doctor by 9 AM and get an MC, you are fit enough to report to work, and beg an early release
