Singapore Cricket Club for a cricketer yes or no?

I'm about to leave England and come to Singapore for a few years. As a cricketer whose enthusiasm makes up for my modest standard (County league cricket, odd cricketer cup game when in 20s), I want to keep playing.

Everyone has pointed me in the direction of the Singapore Cricket Club which just seems to resemble the Hurlingham in London .... Is it worth all the membership application hassle and expense? I'm not really bothered about being "seen" in an exclusive club.

I just want to play cricket regularly (and help out in one if asked) in a league preferably and then have a beer/similar cold beverage in a pavilion afterwards within a club that does have the odd tour/social... that would be ideal.

SCC is a pretty good team with a good mix of expats so you'd fit in nicely. ANZA (aussies+NZ players) is another one I recommend but they dont win all the time. Ur beer after the game is guaranteed with those 2 clubs :)
If you are looking for a serious team that plays hard, then Lanka Lions have been the div 1 champs for 3 yrs in a row...but then its mostly South Asian players.
