Condo Questions for Short term stay

I just got here last week and initially I'll only be here until June 3rd, though it's been strongly implied it could last through August. I could do the hotel option but they're so damn impersonal so I'm looking to get into a condo to maximize my per diem and get a bit more room (especially since my wife and daughter will be popping in and out during my stay). I am an American if that helps anyone make any random advice
I've found a pretty good deal on a condo near the Paya Lebar MRT that will do month to month for a reasonable rate. My question related to that is... how's the area over there? I'm going to be working in Tuas so it doesn't really matter how close/far I am to there. The customer I'm working for runs buses from a lot of different locations so as long as I'm near an MRT I'm alright to get to/from work.
Another option though is to spend about 2x and get a serviced unit at the SAIL.
Or if anyone else has any ideas/options to toss out there. My short stay makes it rather difficult to convince anyone to give me a decent place at a decent rate. I've got a pretty good per diem but my main goal of being here is to pocket as much $$ as I can to pay off debts back home. At the same time though I don't want to live in squaller to save a couple grand extra a month. I'm a 33 year old guy, like to go out for dinner and drinks. My wife and I are pretty well traveled and open to most things, our daughter will also try most things once. An area with a decent expat scene would be good as right now I'm bored out of my mind.
I've kind of rambled on here as I always do... so if anyone has any input I'd appreciate hearing it.
Thanks!
Doug
