Our maid has only been with us for one month and we have just found out she has a compacted wisdom tooth (Probably had problems with it before she joined us) . We have taken her to GP and covered all the medical and drug costs to clear the infection but we have been told that removing the tooth could cost up to $1000.

I am pretty sure our insurance for her does not cover medical (but will check with the agency today).

So, I am wondering if anyone knows of any options - like a student dental hospital or the like. Of course we want her to get good treatment but trying to lower cost as it looks like we will be footing the bill.

Just curious, from which dental clinic did you get that quote? From what I gather, clinics charge less as you go outside the city or away from expat areas.

From my experience, wisdom tooth can go from 300 $ onwards .. and expats can get quoted the amount you mentioned.

The best course of action, though it may be a time consuming affair, is to got the national dental center - http://www.ndc.com.sg/ though your appointment may be a bit hard to come by ..

Go to Q & M. They've got outlets across the island in most housing estates. Even I use them, as I find their work is satisfactory. I've go not complaints and they are a damn sight cheaper that going to some at Camden Medical Centre.

Maids have a cheaper rate if I'm not mistaken! And away from CBD into the heartlands is far cheaper too.

Hello, student treatment is offered at NUS faculty of dentistry. For simple extractions done by students under specialist supervision it would cost $10. For surgical removal of wisdom teeth, it would cost slightly more than $200 when done as a demonstration by a specialist for student learning. Please contact me for more information as i am currently a student at the school and i am looking out for extraction cases.
