Singapore Expats

I was a Singapore PR, holding Malaysian citizenship now, last time but I renounced it at the age of 20 (end of year 2003) after finishing my studies in Junior College, and after that I went on to pursue my university education abroad.

Upon the completion of my university education, due to some family matters I came back and tried finding a job back in Singapore at the end of 2008. I was then actually given the offers but the companies couldn’t apply the EP for me in order to let me work in Singapore. So I ended up finding another job and settling down in KL. That time, as I thought part of the reason might be the economic recession therefore the Singapore government might have tightened up the scheme of employing foreigner, and also I was just a fresh graduate without much experience.

So after working in KL for almost two years, I thought maybe I should give it a try again in applying for job in Singapore but once again the history repeated itself. I was being offered the job but the company couldn’t help me to apply the EP.

By reading on other previous posts, I’m just aware that I’m most likely to be deemed as a NS deserter. And with that status, I would not be able to get the EP approved for any of my job offers here. So I would like to ask whether there is any possibility or anything I can do in order to change that status so that subsequently I can be approved with my EP application.

If you have offers from companies, why would they not complete the EP for you when it is their responsibility? This has happened twice? Or do you mean they applied and it was rejected?

You should be eligible for PEP providing you meet the criteria - check out the MOM website:

Yes, the companies applied the EP for me but it was rejected, then they tried to appeal again but it was still rejected.

If you are really serious about singapore, approach the authorities and speak to them and tell them that you are ready to do NS. See whether it will help.

This is the only way to try to come back to singapore, but no guarantee that they will accept your offer.

How did you renounce your PR. Did you personally went to the ICA, took an appointment with the officer and surrendered your PR? Did you get any confirmation from them upon your renounceation?

PR application explanatory note says, "Renouncing or losing one's PR status without serving or completing full-time NS would have an adverse impact on any immediate or future applications to work or study in Singapore". Here is the link http://www.ica.gov.sg/data/resources/do ... 4_4-01.pdf

NS deserter mean you go AWOL for more than 3 months than your are classified as one or during war time you ran away from battle hence deserting to the full meaning

NS defaulter means you have not serve or about to serve NS but you did not turn up on the day to report for NS duty hence defaulting yourself

@expatguy ... I think you should not advise this as it has never been fruitful and this is NOT THE ONLY WAY. There has never been this way once you are out of the threshold. It is either this or that. No way to circumvent this law, not that I am aware off unless you care to show me I am wrong.
