need help on citizenship

im a local here.i need to ask some questions.my brother has given up his spore citizenship abt 3 years ago.but after living in that particulr country n married there,he now wants to take back his spore citizenship.i believe he cant cope with the situation there and sadly he also going through a divorce preparation.can any 1 advise me on how he can get back his spore citizenship.....really appreciate your answer n feedback.............

Returning to Singapore after Renunciation
The two most commonly asked questions are: Can I re-apply for Singapore citizenship in the future? and Can I come back to Singapore to work or study?
Once you renounce your Singapore citizenship, you will be treated like any other foreigner and any application for immigration facilities, including Singapore citizenship, will be considered on its own merits under the prevailing rules and regulations. To be able to work or study in Singapore you will need a valid work pass and student’s pass. Applications for these passes will be treated like any other application and will be considered on their own merits. Being an ex-Singapore citizen has no standing in these matters and there is no assurance that you will be allowed to enter Singapore. If you are granted PR or citizen status again, please note that you will have to refund the amount withdrawn from your CPF Account at the time of renunciation, along with interest rate accruals.

If you read what SMS has posted it basically means he can not immediately regain Singapore Citizenship, must go through the usual qualifying period and procedures as any foreigner has to.

It is easier said than done. Over the years, no one, I mean no one that has given up citizenship ever gotten it back. CPF monies plus interest is only a small part of the problem . Even if you jump over hoops, I doubt you will ever get it back. Worse if you are the minority race esp Malay. It is a one way street with no U turn

I see this question quite a bit... can foreigners return to SG seeking employment again if they had redrew their CFP and closed the account?
So.. is this guy toast for good?

Probably but come to think of it MOST DEFINITELY.
I read in OZ papers years back , If I recalled, family of four renounced and migrated to OZ in the 80s. Children like it very much but Dad cannot adapt to the life in OZ after death of wife. Dad was high connected person in SG. Applied for PR, SG citizenship or whatever that can allow him to return to SG. Even prepared to return all CPF monies . Died a broken man in OZ in much later in life.

Wow! This is sad!
What's with this thing about CFP? Why was it that people can't withdraw them when the leave the country?

Part of the requirement for reinstatement pf PR or SG citizenship is to return your Central Provident Fund monies including interest back to your own CPF account. This however does not guarantee you will be reinstated as every case is treated in its own merit.
IMHO you can kiss good bye SG Citizenship once renounced
