Whats up with beans on toast?

I just found out our local branch of Lidl does lobsters for euro7.45 a pop. A tin of beans here is about euro3.00 as the only place that stocks them is the local equivalent of Harrods!

Plus what you get a lot here is seasonaility of ingredients. Asparagus season has just begun, and in a couple of weeks every cafe/restaurant will have it on their specials board. Then chanterelle mushroom season is next... and so on...

p.s. the wife just brought back a load of tins of beans from the UK, incl the handy half sized tins. Won't last long I expect

Waiter finally brings in food after so many minutes of waiting...

Me: "Ok, let's eat." (sticks fork into food)
Local: "WAAAAIIIIIITTTT!!!!"
Me: "Wh-What?"
Local: "We haven't taken pictures of our food yet."

Takes out iphone, snaps several photos, posts to Facebook, writes a caption.

Local: "Ok, let's eat."

When it comes to mobiles I am a dinosaur, I'm on my 3rd in 17 years, and the current one takes pictures but I can't d/l them any more since the cable is bust. None of this web or e-mail functionality...

I do take pix of meals I have cooked that I am pleased with, with a regular camera, and they do go on Facebook to share with my 20 Friends... after all they are the friends that usually help to eat what I serve up!


p.s. I find it interesting the disconnect between SGns photographing restaurant food, but usually having no interest in cooking themselves. One for me to ponder...

don't stereotype sgporeans too quickly. I LOVE to cook (i'm local) and have 2 kitchens. but i admit that i get a lot of pretty annoying qns fr locals "why do you cook when it's so cheap to eat outside?" or "isnt it troublesome to wash dishes & clean up?"

anywy since you're wondering y we like to take photos, i personally am a foodie and like to take pics of food i eat, to remember the taste and how it looked. Esp if i know i'm not going to have it again or for a long time. Recently went to Italy and may not be able to return for a few years. (i usually don't take pics of food in Singapore as i think i can have it anytime - recently found that's not true - standards drop, and one of my fav pubs with great bar food closed down and so i'll prob start bringing my camera out.). Anywy the pics serve to retain good memories (i have a short term memory these days) and make me salivate (sorry to be gross) each time i see it. when i see a pic i took, i'm usually like "OMG that tasted so good, it melted in my mouth, how i'd love to have it again soon!".

so hope this answers yr qns...
