It's great for the Country. All the cynics are banging on about it being a waste of taxpayers cash. Yes, GBP 30mn is a lot for a ceremony. But if you quantify everything to a money value, it's a very one-dimensional view of how the world operates. After all the bad times that Britain has been through over the past few years, I think it's great to give everyone something to look forward to and to unite the people.

Apparently Aunt Betty had to cancel her first public engagement in 60 odd years just last week. I believe she averages something like 2-3 every single day. but to moan about the costs of a wedding of this scale, transmitted across the globe, is just silly. The royal family has a very positive effect on the tourism bottom line, and I'd even risk saying that the wedding might pay for itself in the end.

Haha! But a little one dimensional maybe? (You’re sounding almost SGn Chinese, praying to turn a profit from the ang-pows! ). Yes simply on the surface level they are a boon to the economy, and I think you’d have to be rather bitter and poisoned to not accept that fact. But it goes so much deeper to the core of what makes (or made) Great Britain great. Anyway, another time over beers maybe!

Also from a tourism perspective I do hope they choose the Isles of Scilly for their honeymoon. Anyone ever been there?

I don’t, they’re the Royal Family for heaven’s sake. I hope they go and buy a personal island in the Seychelles or something for their honeymoon. All this faux ‘man of the people’ we’re flying Ryanair stuff that Cameron indulges in makes me want to puke! Crikey even Blair wasn’t embarrassed going by private jet to bag freebie holidays at some oligarch or another’s villa. Ironic eh?
