Help: First time pregnant mum carrying Hepatitis B virus

Hi there,

I’m in 4th month pregnancy. I first knew I am HBV carrier in teenage. Don’t know when exactly got infected. Some of my father’s family members carry this virus.

The Gynae I was seeing in my country told me my baby will get injected with immunoglobulin at his/her birth and vaccine a few months later. These two steps are also implemented in Singapore. My another major concern is in Singapore if any special safety procedures will be taking during my delivery. New born baby has the possibility getting infected from the virus positive mother at his/her birth.

Anyone of you could recommend me a doctor here who has experience delivering HBV carrier mother like me? Or you don’t mind sharing with me if you have the same condition? Any opinion is surely welcome.

I would be very grateful if you give any reply.

any obgyn in singapore will be able to take care of you and your baby - it is not an uncommon occurrence.

to make things a little easier, bring all the relevant doctor's notes/records along if you've already done the/some prenatal tests.

you needn't worry too much. just stay cheerful and take care of your unborn baby.

Make sure you get regular health screening later in life. One of my relatives has just been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer resulting from earlier undiagnosed Hep-B infection. If he was aware of that and the associated cancer risk he could have had surgery and likely survived. Too late now.

Apparently this is one of the largest causes of cancer in Asia. A simple by-product of HepB infections...
