If you are a local or PR, your family is covered under Medisave. Although you are working, you can use your Medisave to pay for your wife or kids if the needs arises

http://mycpf.cpf.gov.sg/CPF/my-cpf/have-child/HC3.htm.

If you wish to boost up and cover your family on top of Medisave. There are afew insurance companies such NTUC Income, Great Eastern, AIG, Aviva, Prudential.. Pick your choice and go thru with a tooth comb on what their insurance policies are.

BTW please stop posting multiple threads. The Mods do not like it

MS - you are correct in saying that there is a medi-save account, but that is LIMITED to the cash (plus miniscule interest) that has been deposited into it. The OP is correct in wanting insurance, especially as they are SPR and probably have not been contributing to medisave and have no accumulated balance.
PS - the link doesn't seem to work

yes i feel what will be required is mainly emergency cover

and also normal doctor visits like cold , fever , scanning etc.

such a cover for dependents i dont know how much it will cost if we go for private insurance , i browsed thro some site lie aviva , but too difficult to get to understand what they are saying

perhaps there are people in this forum who have already private insurance for dependents for the requirements stated above

thanx

Strange it did not open for the second time

Anyway, Medisave and Medishield should cover quite a large part of your bills, If you are hospitalise, do not go for Class A or B1 which will cost an arm and a leg. B2 or C will suffice and you get the same treatment. Private though accept Medisave and Medishield , it will cost more

Yes what carteki said is true it does not cover huge amount of the bills but at least 50%.
http://ask-us.cpf.gov.sg/Home/hybrid/Th ... ectionId=5

BTW it does not cover common cold or the visit to private GP. Since OP is a PR go to polyclinic which is subsidise for local and PRs

I am with Prudential and it covers worldwide and 35 illnesses. Cost me $1100 But because I have endowment and life(Prulink) with them , it is inclusive
