Singapore Expats

My international passport has already expired but before that i had already submitted all the necessary documents for its renewal to the embassy. My new passport is going to be issued at the end of July. Currently i am on a valid EP working for a company in Singapore. I am due to receive an offer from a new company this week. My question is whether a new company can apply for my new EP despite the fact that my international passport has already expired.

How long is the renewal of the passport going to take? Better to submit the application after the new renewed passport is ready.

Depends on how much time you have left on your current EP. Probably best to wait for the new passport, but as long as you can bring both along I don't think that it should be a problem (my personal opinion).

I applied under my old passport, and took my new one to be stamped (which they had stopped doing at that point). I can't remember if they asked to look at the old one or not, but there was no issue.

if your passport expired, how are you living in Singapore ?

If you are not here, you need to collect your passport before applying for your EP.

No valid passport, no EP Appn, says my 2 cents commonsense .. and experience ..

If your old passport still has validity, apply using that, then once you get the new passport, a walk to MOM will see them stamp the new passport with your Pass details ..

My current EP will be valid yet for more then a year.

It will take one month or so. But I am not sure if the company can wait for me.

I don't know if it's exactly the case, but I have submitted a few EP renewal applications with an embassy letter stating that the employee has just applied for a passport renovation.

All them were considered valid.

It is exactly the case. And my embassy has issued the same letter to me.

Not so sure. You mentioned a new EP application. The cases I know are renewals.

If this is the same for MoM, it's something I can't answer. But it's so easy as email them asking. That's why I did last time, and they told me to ask for that embassy letter.

Lot of times an email to MOM is faster (and more trustful) that this anonymous anwers from people that doesn't work there, and even if we try our best, we don't know the regulations 100%

As far as I know, foreigners in Singapore must own a valid passport at all times. By having applied for renewal too late, you are already breaking that rule!
Embassies can issue temporary ID documents in emergency cases - go to your embassy immediately to get one!
I don't know if you can apply for an EP with that, but it's worth a try.

If, however, you are currently in your home country, I guess you cannot apply for an EP without a valid passport, you have to wait until it's issued.

That's what is confusing .. and also, the OP is ignoring that question ..

I don't know if you can apply for an EP with that, but it's worth a try.

EC (Emergency Certificate) is only for one time travel, back to your home country, and is not valid for any pass application .. Trust me .. and not a standby passport ..

Plus the OP stating his "international passport" expired .. I have no clue what that is all about ..

If, however, you are currently in your home country, I guess you cannot apply for an EP without a valid passport, you have to wait until it's issued.

His country might be like Singapore used to be many years ago when I first came here. I was told that Singapore did have two passports, one a local one that only permitted travel to Malaysia and the International one for the rest of the world. I cannot find any references to it today but I vaguely remember my wife telling me about them.

Yes, Singapore did have one passport for Malaysia, and one for rest of the world .. and a few years ago, they stopped that system and it is only one passport for everything ..

But, I am yet to know a country that has a passport for travel to Singapore ..

Wouldn't surprise me if Brunei did. Haven't checked but seeing they shared the currency for many years it could be a possibility. I reckon it's been close to 20 years since Singapore stopped using two different passports.
