HI there. I am moving to singapore in a few weeks. Ive just been over and found our place (near Tana Mera MRT, district 16) and I have a few questions about travelling aroiund wiht a dog. I am going to be living green for a while, pedal power! and using the MRT trying to live without a car of our own.. BUT... I cant take my dog on the MRT or in a taxi (unless she is in a cage,) but my qn is, how do you cage an animal and get to an interesting place to walk then have the cage wiht you? Ugh! Just wondering if anyone else knows of a taxi co that allows dogs? I would LOVE to be able to transport her over to some of the national parks or the botanical gardens.. any ideas? Thanks all.

I've never needed a cage to take my dogs in a taxi, but I always let the dispatch know when I order the cab that the dogs will be riding in our laps. I usually call Comfort.

As above - most taxi drivers have no problem taking your dog (if small) as long as it sits on your lap

Same as above.. only had once incident and coincidentally we were at the vet's office when calling a cab. She specifically said that we would have a dog with us but when the driver arrived he freaked. Other than that though it has been smooth sailing. We have a Sherpa travel bag that works well but have not used it yet.

Are dogs allowed on the MRT? I figured that was not allowed?

yep.. correct ... under the SMRT regulations, animals including pets are not allowed in trains, and at any part of the train stations, except for guide dogs accompanying blind persons.

I have seen in some countries such as Italy where dogs can be seen with the owners at train and train stations. really pet friendly :)

Same in Toronto. Pets are only disallowed during rush hour, and even then it seems it's at the driver's discretion.
