Hi, I am getting to move to SG in two weeks and am getting all of my medical stuff ready. I am wondering if you can get good quality glasses in SG or is it really expensive compared to the US? I am under the impression that it is more expensive and less of a quality selection to get good optics in SG and it is better to purchase the optics in the US. Thank you in advance for your help.

Which makes one wonder if the quality of eye wear here is up to snuff or if the opticians are as the older they get the worse their eyes get until 70% of the population needs glasses by the time they finish secondary school. And instead of arresting the degradation of the eyes, they just seem to get worse.

Yes nothing has been done to address the increasing trend of kids being myopic. Its appalling to see kids which i guess aren't even in primary school wearing glasses!

I think it's roughly the same quality and price--but perhaps better service. My daughter's glasses were run over at school (by a bus) and the optical shop at IMM replaced them at a VERY nominal fee. I was shocked. That being said, I did purchase glasses in Malaysia--DAMN cheap. But then you will need to go there for repairs, etc. So you do have choices. I know folsk who, when on vacation, get their glasses in Bangkok. Just depends on what you want.

I'm getting closer and closer to closing a deal to take a job over there and began thinking about all the medical stuff that I'd have to get sorted. It dawned on me that I haven't had my eyes check or gotten new glasses in something like 10 years.

So far past overdue it's staggering.

...which reminds me again, I need to check to see if the health care covers vision.
