Singapore Expats

Hi, I currently live in the US and will be moving to Singapore soon. My son will be about 8 months when we move. I will be working full-time and want childcare. I am aware of maid/nanny option but would prefer to send him to a daycare.

Does Singapore have daycares similar to the US where they take such young babies?
Where can I find a list of such places?
Do they have long waiting lists? Do I need to reserve a spot before moving, or will I be able to get a spot after moving?

yes, there are daycare for babies. It's called infant care centre here. It's better you come here first and choose it. You want to see it and speak to the director/personnel before deciding where to put your baby.

I hear preschools/nurseries have big waiting lists what about daycares? Will my 2 yr old be too old for daycare?

The most efficient way is to use the government link below. MCYS is the govt ministry in-charge of issuing licences for the early childhood education industry. Under "Search for childcare centres', select the area which you would want to live in and you will get a full list of all regulated service providers, including their listed prices.

Then click under each school/provider and look under "Services Provided". 2 months to 18 months will be listed under infant care, but not all service providers do infant care. For 2 year olds, they are usually considered "child care" (as opposed to "infant care").

Most of child care centres (equivalent to the daycares) take in children from 18 month old or 2 year old. As for the waiting list, I think it depends of the area where you live, whether the child care centres is popular or not, etc...

Most welcome, wannamove. Just sharing my own research as I was looking around for a place for my son in the Bishan area.

I eventually enrolled him in the centre below. So far, the school is doing a great job. It is a bilingual centre (English and Mandarin).
