When did you have your first visit to the Gyne after you discovered you were pregnant......?

I just did a pregnancy test at the clinic where the doctor suggested it would be best to visit a Gyne somewhere around the 10 week when the fetal heart beat could be heard -For the rest I was just given folic acid .....

This is my first pregnancy ,So i am excited and anxious at the same time -Should I usually wait till I'm ten weeks into my pregnancy ?

if you went earlier, the doctors can't do anything as the fetus is still quite tiny. also, it would be a waste of money...

8 or 9 weeks is about as early as it gets unless there's something wrong with your baby. 10-12 weeks is probably optimal.

If I remember correctly, I went at 8 weeks for the 'dating' ultrasound, and the fetal heartbeat was visible and audible then. We did blood tests, pap smear, the OB took my family history and we talked about which genetic tests I'd want done etc. It definitely wasn't a waste, but I'm sure it could have waited another couple weeks.

I went in 6th week and the heart was already beating, but the doctor actually "congratulated" me officially at next visit at 12 weeks.

Also, I believe a doctor can see the heart beating on the u/s long before it can be heard with the doppler machine...fwiw. If you're healthy and don't have any reason to believe that the pregnancy will be anything other than normal, might as well wait a bit.

I went at 12 weeks first time and 13 or 14 weeks the second time. Since I only had 2 ultrasounds per pregnancy I wanted something to look at.
Now I have beautiful pictures of little aliens.

Also, I pushed second ultrasound earlier, since later they are to big for nice pictures.
