With the move getting closer, I was curious about what kitchen appliances are considered basic when renting. I am assuming most stuff varies from unit to unit but is there something standard

Do most units come with a
microwave
dishwasher (I have heard that dishwashers are very rare)
fridge
cooking range (electric or gas? 4 burners or 2?)
Oven

In my experience little is provided.
No micro - you buy yourself.
The d/w you hire, that's your maid!
Fridge/freezer, we bought ourselves
Washing machine, bought ourselves
Range/oven. Yes we had 4 ring gas, plus an oven. But in a really tiny kitchen for a 1250ft unit.

p.s. I also viewed units with no ovens (and nowhere to put one), baking does not seem that common in SG. Also viewed a modern and decent unit and it's kitchen was a 2 ring electric hob and a sink! A mixed bag as you see.

Typically, if anything, this would be:
- washing machine and a dryer (optional)
- fridge
- cooking range (gas, 4 burners, without the oven)

Obviously more furnished apartment you rent higher probability the appliances will be there. In a partly furnished apartment we rented initially it was all the above plus a small microwave. In a fully unfurnished place we rented later there was only built in gas oven with 4 burners.

As JR8 mentioned, the dish-washing machines come in Singapore under the common name of living-in maids. Electric models are rather rare and expensive.

dont even ask for a toaster!

We've moved several times in Singapore and every apartment we looked at came with a refrigerator, washer/dryer, stove/oven. 5 years ago it was very uncommon to see a dishwasher (or there may have been one in the "yard/washing area" which was a bit odd b/c you had to go outside to get to it) - but I would say 60% of the places we saw last year had a dishwasher.

We moved here two months ago. All the places we saw had ovens and a couple had microwaves. They all had a washer and dryer. The place we decided on had a double oven, microwave, new washer and dryer, cooker, refrigerator and dishwasher (in the yard area so you can imagine how often I use that thing!). The fridge was so old we bought our own. The owners would only replace if it broke beyond repair. Since here, you have to pay for the first 150 to 200 dollars for repairs, if something is really old looking, financially and practically, it might be worth buying your own.

Not strictly an appliance but I would definitely look to see if the kitchen has aircon. I assumed it did and didn't even check. I regret that now, the kitchen gets hot! And if you are using the gas hob, you have to close the yard door because the wind gives you a weird flame.

I think it really depends on:
- furnished/unfurnished
- market segment

We just moved and have seen a dozen of apartments in the process and none of them had a dishwasher, 1/3 washing machines / driers, majority a cooking range, 1 or two an oven. All unfurnished, condos.

Bummer. This was on the must-haves list for our next place. A really hot kitchen makes cooking a chore more than a pleasure.

This is again the same problem as with the dishwashers - typically the maids cook here so nobody will bother.

Same here, Aircons are not common in Asian kitchens.

Hahaha, you would think so but they are actually very useful for making fresh fruit juice without having to throw out the peel (its where a bulk of the vitamins are concentrated).
