Singapore Expats

I'm going for a holiday in Japan soon and i need some winter clothes for below zero degrees celsius. There seemed to be not much choices here in Singapore. Any places where I can find mroe varieties of winter clothes?

Also planning to go across the borders to JB/KL for some cheaper winter clothes. Any idea how much they costs there? Perhaps if it is around 40-50% cheaper I'll go there.

The above in Plaza Sing is the only place I've seen.

Snow city has a big collection and so does the outdoor stores in Velocity Mall, The people park complex has a large china product type shop that has winter gear but the stuff they sell make you look like you just escaped from some Russian Gulag.

thanks for replying! but i havent actually ahve time to go shopping for my winter clothes yet. not gonna go to people parkn complex. thanks for thhe reminder.

I can only wait till mid november before i can go shopping. and my trip is in early december. am i too late? are sizes usually still available then?

i havent gone to plaza sing for a long time. and on the web it says 'relocated' so i'll call again to check or if i every pass by there i'll pop in for a look. Thank you.

There is a Winter clothing store in Suntec (Tropics Atrium) on the 2nd floor just near the atrium. They look expensive, I have not been in there to be fair...

How about Uniglo? Cheap and fashionable and they have outlets in 333 Somerset and Orchard Icon.

I used to confuse their name in that way too. They're called Uniqlo

If you cheap out on winter clothes, you'll get what you pay for, generally speaking. Maybe you should look online? When my hubby went on a snowboarding vacation last winter we looked all over the island for appropriate seasonal wear (the snowboarding clothes he rented at the resort) and found nothing even close to right. Fashionable-yes, warm-definitely not. How much time will you be spending outside?

Winter-Time...but if u want those ruggedized ones,try Novena Square-Velocity....real wind-breaking..

I wouldn't recommend that. Winter clothes (like other specialised clothes range) are one of those stuff that would not justify you crossing over the border for.

For example, I happened to buy a MYR680 winter coat from Winter Time in Malaysia two months ago. When I spotted the exact one in the Winter Time in Jurong Point, it was priced around SGD280. Even after you convert the currency, the difference, like I said, would not justify it.

And Singapore has more choices in winter clothes range.

Don't bother trying to buy fakes from JB or KL either. Yeah I know it may even cost around MYR200 plus. You may not see/feel the difference now but wait till you use it there and you'll be begging for more layers over what you're wearing. I've heard way too much of such encounters.

Walking in Kreta Ayer Road and saw a Arcteryx Store there. Love their stuff!

LOL reminds me of my father who is the frugal sort, he was shocked and a bit angry when he found the price mum and I paid for our sorel winter boots. He came back proud as a peacock he found an identical looking pair for 1/4 of the price. 45mins into our walk in deep snow we had to almost carry him back, his foot was soaked and almost frost bitten ours was bone dry and toasty. He then quietly went out and bought a pair of sorels.

You can find some bargains with samples and factory seconds in Hong Kong outlet stores but its touch and go if they have them and if its your size.

My own personal experience, it's definitely cheaper to buy winter clothes in countries that actually have winter! In addition, due to the high import tax rate, such clothing are quite expensive.

For example: Winter coat in Singapore (zara) - $395 while winter coat in UK (zara) - 120 quid.

Maybe you can look out if there are any warehouse sales for Winter Wear in the newspapers? I got mine one at one of them, can't exactly remember where too.

I'm with Andy on this one, get clothes when you get there, they will be a load cheaper, also, they will have different levels of warmth and you can see which suits cause it will be cold when you are there!

Also, you'll get sale and cheaper stuff that's unbranded, probably better bet than buying the expensive stuff here if you only use it for a holiday!
