Singapore Expats

I'm moving to Singapore at the end of the week and being of mexican heritage I was wondering if I can expect to find any mexican food in Singapore.

It's along shot but if the answers no...no worries...I enjoy foods from all over the world.

Maybe I'll just bring it with me

Real Mexican? Or a poor imitation of the US imitation known as Tex-Mex?

Well both actually.

While I've spent much more time enjoying Tex-mex...I like the authentic dishes very much.

There are a few places around but nothing like back home. Cafe Iguana is pretty good and there are a couple of places in Holland Village that are OK as well. One of them is named Cha Cha Cha. There is one on Dempsey Hill called Margaritas but not so good. The only place we have found tamales is at Casa Latina. The rest of the food is OK there.
There are enough options to kill the cravings but don’t expect anything spectacular.

Not an expert with Mexican food but I've tried Cafe Iguana at Clarke Quay and Margarita's at East Coast and I like both.

From Colorado so always craving Mexican. Tip - lower your expectations and wait until you absolutely need a Mexican fix. Then hit up El Patio in Holland Village. Skip Cafe Iguana and Margaritas (overpriced and not good). El Patio is still over priced (for Mexican), but the chips and salsa are fresh, the guac is fresh, the tacos, fajitas, enchiladas are delicious and the portions are good sized. The Mexican food is probably as authentic as you will get in Singapore. There is also a taco place in Clark Quay and a Mexican Hawker stall in the Kopitiam near Bras Basah, both are average, but the price is good. I've also found it quite easy to make my own Mexican as most ingrediants are available at Cold Storage. Good luck!

I agree that you can skip the food at Café Iguana but still worth a visit for drinks as they are reputed to house the widest range of tequila and mezcal in Southeast Asia . . .

I believe the Mexicans themselves prefer either Casa Latina or Piedra Negra . . .

Be on the lookout for Cold Storage and Jason's Supermarket where you'll be staying. They usually stock more international foods. Most stock catering more to local foods, although Fairprice Extra sometimes could compete with variety.

I agree, go to the store and buy what you need. The key thing to know is that CILANTRO is called Chinese Parsley. A must have for guac and salsa!

You guys are great, I foun dthe Chinese Parsley at Cold Storage...Guac and Salsa for dinner tonight!

Piedra-Negra @ Arab Street. Went there last week and had their Ceviche de salmon. very nice and appetizing. Also had Enchilada corn tortilla with chicken, nice tasty green sauce. Their decorations looks colourful and mexican too.

I also heard from a buddy that Arab street had a number of cozy places to hang out.
