Singapore Expats

My 2 year old daughter and me love toys/puzzles by Melissa and Doug. I was wondering if they are easily available in Singapore and if the costs are comparable to US

Since I am going to be shipping stuff soon, I was wondering if I should indulge and buy some of the favorites to be taken our later.

There is a toy store here, The Better Toy Store, I think, that carries a lot of the premium lines. Pretty sure I've seen melissa and doug there, and if not there at some of the department stores.

BUT be prepared to pay at least 50% higher prices here if not more.

Mellisa and Doug may be found in ToysRus, however I think the choice is pretty limited comparing to U.S.

The Better Toy Story is my favorite place to shop but they are uber expensive. Watch for sales.

I second Toys R Us, but the selection is minimal.

Thirdly, and I probably can't give the name, I found an online shop that delivers. I had a GREAT experience with them. I was looking for a particular Melissa and Doug item and they delivered it very promptly. I'm still surprised they even had it in stock. You can find misc wooden toys from different manufacturers everywhere. Just depends on what you are looking for! I love the selections I've found around, just not the prices.

There is a toy shop in the deepest darkest boondocks, very surprising its modern and full of Mellisa & doug stuff, sort of shop you would expect in some fancy expat mall.

Heres the problem I don't know the address, its on a busy road where there's the famous katong laksa 388 shop, its very close to a lovely old shop house painted dark red and has been hoarded up, close to a well know pernakan shop selling outfits and snacks, its on my sat nav in the car when its back from servicing I will try and dig it out.

Now I know what Greek and Latin sound like! I have never been to Singapore and am moving in a week and your description of the shop felt like it was in a strange language! But I will wait till you can dig around more

Probably talking about near to the old closed up Red House Bakery on East Coast Road just opposite Roxy Square (shopping centre).

Thats the place! I had a hunt through Google street view and the shop is not there, I dont know how old the images are on google.

It makes sense its gone, seems like a really daft place to put such a high end toy shop.

Island wide it's great. Etsy, okay. Anywhere else is an arm and a leg to ship.

At Christmas time I usually do 3/4's of my shopping online. Not here. I HAVE to go to stores. Because I've also found that just because it looks good, the quality may not be.

Have you heard of Gmarket? I shop there a lot. Most of the stuff has been great. Shipping reasonable. People nice.

Other than that, I'm not having much luck.

Books, yes, but Amazon stinks for singapore.

I cell phone spy software do not much like Melissa and Doug toys, since they are made in China, cheaply, and are vastly inferior to other widely available wooden toys (take a look at Plan Toys; much nicer, also Haba). But my 3-year-old daughter is crazy about them.

I love Melissa and Doug - so does my daughter. I think their puzzles are great for motor skills development.

I found a great shop in the newly opened 112 Katong mall with a huge stock of Melissa and Doug puzzles/toys. Not overly priced compared to the US.

I also found some in the shop in Marina Bay Sands (forgot the name of the store but it was right next to the kids indoor play place - Kidzilla)

I just went onto this thread to tell you about Katong I12 but see you got there first! Nice water play area too.
