last night when we came in through the border the immigration officer had a problem with my passport.

apparently it did not want to scan?

we got the clear by going via the office however

Is this normal or can is this a sign that something was flagged on my profile?

Who knows?!?

Last time when i was grilled in one of the immigration room with was few years back. Though the superior didn't give me any reason -when i asked why was i grilled for about 10 mins - one of the person at the counter said -that my first page with the photo appeared to be peeled. So once I reached Singapore - got the passport fixed through high commission.

o okay well i wasnt asked Any Questions. so it was kinda odd

dont fell like causing problems in a country where I am visiting.

Any ideas if they can see work apps at MOM? pending or rejected.

I think your passport photo could not be the reason.
Probably is someone of a crime or sort has same name as you.
In Singapore, the custom is very strict so they played safe by asking you go through manually to confirm that you are not a wanted man. Haha
As for ICA system linked to MOM, i do not think they can see your work applications. They can see whether you are work permit or not or have work here before or not but chance of your work applications in progress to be seen seems remote.

And you forgot to say that Singapore has facial recognition trials going on ..

Sh-t Happens with technology! Mostly human error and remember on data entry when you visit your doctor or specialist, and say the wrong thing, like you have more than 2 drinks a day when you are stressed, you will be stamped by many enthusiastic doctors has an alcoholic and it's impossible to get the records straight!

The problems arise everywhere in government with technology, were some dickhead has typed in wrong information and the person reading the data takes it has true when it was said in jest! Talk about making mountains out of mole hills and the human error is the biggest offender!

Also the reason why the British Army, Police and other security forces collect useless out of date information based on what others have wrote down without verifying, it happens alot. I shouldn't worry about your passport not scanning, but what others are feeding into the system every time you visit a government agency

Basically it's oral communication that gets distorted along the chain if it's not secured by protocols, some data have weaker links than others which may trigger a flag, but even then it's human error or trial and error for increasing security issues.
