Singapore Expats

Has anyone discovered a place to buy an inexpensive bottle of whiskey for the weekend? I managed to bring 3 litres of Double Black with me upon my arrival, however, my supply levels are dangerously low.

I have gone to a few liquor stores and grocery stores, and prices nearly led me to tears. I knew alcohol here was expensive, but 100 SGD for a bottle of Jack Daniels or 120 SGD for a bottle of black label is a crime. Is there anywhere I can find a bottle of whiskey (yes, any whiskey) for under 40 SGD?

The other best option seems to be booking flights for a night out and then stopping at the duty free for a combined price still let expensive than a bottle of decent scotch here.

Go for some local brands like "Black Cat"

Thai Mekong Whiskey? Pretty good drop once you get used to it! I can vouch for that - at least to me it tastes as good/bad as Cutty Sark. I'm former single malt drinker.

Can probably find it in the Shops at the Golden Mile Complex on Beach Road (little Thailand)

I used to be the same, I tend to be a little more selective now, having spent 10 years in Scotland and having had a Scottish Grandfather who was a very big whisky fan I only drink the Scottish variety.

If I ever spelt Whisky as Whiskey, my colleagues/friends etc in Scotland would mock me.

Still, there is not many places to find "Cheap" Whisky in Singapore, not good stuff anyway that I've found!

Sure it does. You just have to lower your tastes. Samsu and Chinese cooking brandy will do you in just fine.

You can also micro-brew you own beer from kits (legally) for the past 5 years or so.

Might be cheaper to ferment some fruit and bread for some Singapore style "pruno" mmmmmmm

I've already accepted no more macallan. "Any Glen would do" but that seems out of budget also. Might need to start with putting a splash of h2o into the cheap stuff.

Sieng Siong Supermarkets are also quite reasonable on some spirits too especially the vodka.

I'm going to try going here after work taking to MRT to Kovan. Their promotional prices are pretty good, if I can get Red Label (although not a big blended fan) for 30 SGD consistantly, I will be a happy man. Seems almost too good to be true in Singapore... are taxes of some sort excluded or something??

If you find out, that at 30$, they are making about 30% profit ... you too would do what a couple of friends did (and me too .. ) open a bar, and buy wholesale ..

Well, for me, I am not a fan of drinking at home .. but, I skip big bars, for bottles.

Smaller bars throw in Black Label / Chivas at 110$ .. about the cheapest I could think of

PS: the bottles at the Eurotech place is 75 cl, while duty free is 1 liter ..
