I am new to Singapore and wanna find friends to enjoy concerts together.

No...do they actually do that here? Shame shame. Not that I could afford the time to go to the symphony, but I've been wanting to check it out.

Are you kidding, a lot don't even bother to dress up in evening gowns & tuxedos. They also like to keep up a running commentary with their partners during the entire program, similar to the way they behave in the local movie theaters.

I somehow doubt that the running commentary would go that way...but a running commentary would run nonetheless.

Anecdote: a good friend of mine has his master's in piano performance from Juilliard. He performs in a local variety-type show (I'm sure you know the one I mean). A while back he made several attempts to get some type of cross promotion thing going with the local symphony and didn't even get a response. He then contacted individual members to see if they'd be interested in doing some chamber music together in a strictly artistic/amateur setting and got blown off with basically "what do you take me for?? I'm a serious artist!" type response from more than one member. So frack 'em anyway. Music snobs.

*ahem* not everyone has evening gowns & tuxedos but I'd agree to dressing appropriately to the occassion.

Otherwise, it'd probably be a good idea to have a formal wear rental shop just at the front of house

Actually that is a splendid idea! (and welcome back! Five & half years is a long time!)

At least in Washington DC, a lot of the finer restaurants keep dinner jackets of various sizes and a selection of "suitable", if not fashionable, dresses for those guests who are caught short (like tourists). Helps keep up the reputations to a better lever without chasing away customers or upsetting other customers. Not sure if any of the high end restaurants like in the Raffles Hotel or Shangri La do or not as I'm not a high end diner by nature.
