Singapore Expats

I am in singapore on a dependant pass as my husband works here,i would like to work from home providing a beauty service im not looking to build a big business just something to keep me busy but i dont want to break the law. Is it time consuming and costly to set up with a business name etc?

If you're just looking into something to keep yourself busy, I'd suggest not to bother setting up business because one of the tricky part is that who is going to sign your LOC if you are your own boss and you are on DP tied to your husband's EP with no employee etc?

My advice is that you do it small and start very small. Since you are doing beauty service, this should be easier for women. Start with friends, neighbours or husband's female colleagues. Solicit through personal recommendations.

If you are good and your services are cheap (which is most likely), you will be busy. Considering that you work from home, or you go to friends' house to offer beauty service, it will help you to understand the local market better and prepare yourself better for an actual business. Remember you said you only want to keep yourself busy and not for profit.

But remember, once you are going full speed ahead and you are ready to set up an actual business, then you follow the recommended procedures advised in the thread shared by Mi Amigo.

Thanks for your quick reply,i have a few potential clients already and i will be charging as the product costs to use, it`s a spraytanning service.I would probably just do as you said in Australia but i just dont want to get myself in trouble here and as i would like to advertise etc i just don`t want to get myself in a bad situation of breaking the law.Thanks for your help though i registered my singpass today and i`m in the process of filling out the application with the ACRA.

Yes i do notice most locals love having white skin and detest the sun!But im aiming my business at the expats who like to have a healthy safe glow

We had another Aussie up here a couple of years ago who tried the same thing. Don't know if she eventually got caught or went legitimate and registered a company, etc. etc. Which I could remember her nick. Maybe you can search the forum for some of the info. I know there are several spraytanning services who regularly pump out orange people other than bodybuilders getting ready for a competition.
