Singapore Expats

We are moving to Singapore mid March and wondered if anyone could advise us on availability of swimming lessons near to River Valley area. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

There are threads with details of swimming schools, you should search to get subjective views.

You have a few options:

1. If you move to a condo, find out who visits to do swimming lessons (Management Office should know)

2. Send them to a pool close by at a instructor lead lesson like this http://www.swimminglessons.com.sg/ - we use them for my son now he can swim

3. Teach them to float and swim themselves and wait until they get a bit older for stroke development and then send them to a school. We did this with my son and used the above school, my daughter is now swimming around the pool, we are waiting for a bit before we send he to lessons.

It's totally up to you, I enjoyed spending time with my children teaching them how to swim a little and giving them incentives I knew they would react to well in order to do that.

Thank you very much this information is really helpful. I take my son swimming several times a week on my own and feel he needs a bit more than I can teach him. Will be great to be able to swim every day if we want.

Our son also goes to art, music classes and riding lessons here which he loves would you be able to provide any information regarding classes that he could attend in Singapore?

Don't know much about art classes but you don't have to worry about music lessons for your son. How old is he and which instruments you want him to learn?

If you intend to enrol him for structured music course, Yamaha is great for breaking in young children into music, especially piano. Here is the link: http://sg.yamaha.com/music_education/ya ... ic_school/

Of course there are hundred of others but I can only advise further with more info from you.

As for riding course, there is one I know of at Fairways Drive near Bukit Timah: http://www.btsc.org.sg/riding/riding-co ... rs-course/. A friend of mine is a member and she sends her daughter to the class (she is around 12 I think). Not sure if they cater for very young children. You can check it out.

Good morning and thank you for the information. My son is three and a half and I would like him to have drum lessons although I realise they may not take him until he is a little older. Any form of music and movement class would be great just to keep his interest.

I am sure we will find plenty for him to do but trying to keep activities similiar to what he has here.

I think there are courses that can take in four-year-olds but you need to look around as not every drum school cater for young children. Aside from Yamaha, you can try the following (those are the ones who offer child-friendly course for drums):

You can check Aquaducks, they conduct classes at Tanglin, very close to river valley.
