Hi guys and gals,

if you are new to Singapore and want to meet some fun people while spending some time on the water or if you simply want to try something new, come down to Kallang river on Saturday afternoons and look for the people clad in green, the Gaelic Dragons, and go for a paddle with us.

The Irish Dragon Boat team is a dynamic and enthusiastic bunch. Our team consists of many nationalities brought together by friendships and sporting spirit, so while we have close ties to the Irish community in Singapore you don't have to be Irish to paddle with us - most of us aren't! While we are a competitive sporting team we place a premium on fun and friendship and we welcome everyone to join us and experience what being in the dragon boat community is all about!

Check www.gaelicdragons.org for the exact location of the boats. We meet at 3 pm, paddle out for 2 hrs and then have some beers on the beach. No previous experience necessary, we'll teach you all you need to know.

The first paddle is free so come and give it a go!

Saw a pretty diverse group there once. They were drinking San Miguel Beer in the iconic amber bottle, no less.

I don't remember if they were the Gaelic Dragons though.

Hi everyone,

the 800m race is well behind us and that is a great time to try out dragon boating!

Come down to Kallang river tomorrow for a couple of hours on the water, some beer on the beach and let us invite you to the pool party and BBQ on Sunday.

See you there

Carisa

Hello,

Have been thinking about trying out Dragonboating for a long time now. Do you all train throughout the year and what is the fitness level expected? I'm totally unfit but very keen on watersports and getting fit in general. Have heard dragonboating is an easy/fun way to do that. And have heard plenty good stuff about the Irish dragon boating team :) Would love to drop by if competitive beer drinkers with the expected occupational hazards are welcome :D

Of course

Hi thinkImparanoid,

you are more than welcome to try paddling with us. Drinking skills can come in very handy during the on-land boat races with other teams...

We do train year round and anyone who doesn't have a medcial condition preventing them from doing sports can train with us.

How much and how hard you want to train is pretty much up to you - the Saturday water training is for everyone and every level, we usually have a boat out that does training specifically for newer members.
If you want to invest more time and get fitter we can absolutly help you with that too, there is Tuesday pool training, suggestions for your own training and the extra training for race squats...

Simply come down to the beach on Saturday and have a chat with us, I'll send you my number by pm.

Everyone else is of course as well welcome to join us this Saturday!

Hi, interested to lose some weight. I used to do it alittle so will really like to go back to dragonboating. BTW, I am very unfit now plus have not done it for many many years.

Hi bikespeed,

this weekend we have a race (the SAVA sprints at Lower Seletar Reservoir) but why don't you come down on the 15. October and give it a go?
