Hi guys

I am needing some advice on experienced dog sitters in the central area of Singapore. I am going away for an extended period of time and need someone reliable to visit my 2 small pups, take them for walks and give them the attention they need while I am away. I have looked into boarders but I know my dogs would stress too much and I would prefer for them to stay somewhere familiar. I have even looked into having 'housesitter' (strangers) stay in our place while we are away (much to my boyfriend's dissatisfaction!).

Has anyone had any good experiences with a business or person?

How about getting your puppies to get familiarised with the boarders (like K9 Kulture etc) since you are leaving in June? Talk to the staff and bring them over once a week or something until the puppies are familiar. Plus they will have other dogs to interact with, which will be good. That way you will be able to alleviate the stress when you are actually away.

The staff will be able to guide you on managing the separation stress.

We faced the same problem with holidays and work travel - kennels aren't nice places to send your pet. They get neglected and holed-up in an unfamiliar environment.

We use a cat sitter (Not just cats - she looks after anything furry or with more than 2 legs!) when we travel - 3/4 days up to 2-3 weeks. Cost is about $70 sgd a day for two, one hour, visits per day but if it's a longer timeframe, you'll be able to negotiate.

She comes highly recommended; trustworthy and reliable, and my cats really like her.

I've just used a wonderful couple during my last holiday. I was initially also looking for housesitters (there is a story behind this, it's not just me being unreasonable) but after meeting them decided there was no problem for the pets to stay at their place. They already have a small dog and a golden retriever, and maybe even a couple cats. They sent me news updates every couple days which was great.

Will use them again during my (much longer) absence this summer.

I think they're on Facebook under Starshine inc pets or something like that.

Before choosing anybody, you should really meet them first though.

This is excellent advise. I'm also looking for a dog sitter for September time and perhaps the odd weekend and similarly not really wanting a permanent maid. If you find someone reliable could you let me know?

'Nuff' if I find a good sitter, I will pass on info to you if you are interested.

A friend of mine had a sitter for two of her dogs while she was away. She was so anxious that she got the sitter to send her daily pictures of the dogs.

That's standard practice for pet sitters here!

Make sure the pet sitters are not PRC's or Koreans! The last pictures might be of them roasting on a spit!
