Has anyone seen this?

As much as I hate ill-informed xenophobes, I really hate ill-informed oblivious idiots that go and say stupid things at the wrong times to just stir up a lot of shit:

This lady essentially wrote a letter to the newspaper complaining about how 2nd Gen PRs shouldn't have to do NS at all, and talk about their contributions... Sigh. SMS stirs this pot. This is basically p!ssing in it, and then giving everyone the finger.


And of course, the local xenophobe sites are eating it up, and making it worse:

Let me be the first to kick her cyber ass. Since the witch hunt has started, this will not only affect the PRs but the Filipinos working in Singapore as well. I believe she is educated enough and obviously well off unlike the rest of us “indios”

well, she appeared as a contact of a contact, in my volunteer group and then she disappeared .. turns out the contacts of hers all quit her Facebook page ..

Hey, I criticize Filipinos as well. The opportunity to do it here just doesn't come up as often.

She not just scold Singaporean lady.

Like most articles on that TemasekTimes blog, it is extremely inflammatory.

She doesn't call Singaporeans pigs, except the ones insulting her/her race. That is fair enough, since they 'started' it and the context of her insult is directly targeting those with specific ill thoughts. She does call Singaporeans lazy though. Well, I'll refrain from comment on that one

In other countries, foreigners are expected to respect locals and integrate with them.

Sure, but the locals don't berate and treat foreigners like utter pieces of crap nearly so much as they do in Singapore.

Does anybody else feel as uneasy as I do reading people's Facebook posts on a public news forum complete with their full names and personal information? I'd love to see how well that type of "journalism" went over in my home country....

A whole lotta hypocrisy going on in those comments, regardless of the subject matter.

That, and a shocking amount of near-illiteracy for what is supposed to be the native tongue.

Every time I start to read that stuff on places like TT I give up early on because of the Manglish* and the vitriol, and lack of any semblance to an actual discourse.

I also gave up because, as I keep saying, I pretty much gave up on caring long ago and have no interest. It's entertainment value only holds me for a few minutes.



*recently learned that for some this refers to Malay-English, whereas I use it to describe Singapore English as Mangled English, so not sure which is correct

Just to take short detour from the topic, Manglish refers to the Malaysian English. I think you are referring to Singlish here. But to be honest, both of them sound the same to my ear (although some with keen sense of accent swear that they can tell the difference).

Well, while I do marginally recognise Singlish in its own right, what people speak here most often is pidgin English.

They are so in need for culture that they cling to it, defend it, and confuse it with Singlish.

But you're right, this digression is a common one for this forum.

The last time Singlish was brought up, some people got so riled up and fought tooth, fang and claw.
