Singapore Expats

Any suggestions? I much prefer my horrible singing skills terrorize a public audience who doesn't know me My search has lead to Alps Cafe and Cows and Coolies.

C&C sounds great from the descriptions, anyone have first hand experience with the crowd there? (english, chinese, mix, music available?)

Finally, anyone here want to karaoke in public? I'm thinking of going tonight like 10ish.

Maybe you can answer a question for me. Why is it that the people who sing karakoe shouldn't.

Karaoke in public I'd about putting yourself out there. Sometimes I clap cause it was good. Sometimes because it's over.

Besides, if you " should" karaoke then you should sing somewhere better than a local bar

I have no idea why most people wish to karaoke in front of an audience. Most cannot sing for $hit, and it is not funny, it is not enjoyable, it is completely painful to endure.

I go to Chinese and Malay weddings and all these random people start karaokeing and I am not alone in simply laughing at how unforgivably useless they are, and sticking my fingers in my ears.

Why can you not get a K-box and karaoke in private (i.e. with a group of friends)? Why the voyeuristic demand to inflict the uninvited and unwanted freak-show on other people?

Why would I pay money to sing in a box? I can do that in a shower. I don't want to hear myself sing!

Every karaoke bar I went to had regulars who were good enough to enjoy, some new people who were trying, and one guy who couldn't sing for sit but did anyway. And it was always fun. Besides, when I travel I travel alone and after a song or two someone always comes up and says hi. Great way to meet.

Unfortunately, I don't even have a one octave range, however, like JR8, karaoke is actually painful. While I wasn't blessed with a singing voice, I was cursed with pitch perfect hearing, so it IS painful. My wife was a professional singer here for 20 years and I was her best fan and worst critic as the band could attest. Fortunately, her singing is almost pitch perfect even without music. Quickest way to get me out of a place is to start karaoke.

me! I been to Alps before, there have quite a few pro singer. =X

people die from singing karaoke in my country...either they get shot after singing "my way" or they are off key..

When I was stationed here 10 years ago there was a place on boat quay called Tomorrow's. It was the kind of place you mentioned. I would go there most nights and drink until everyone sounded good. My greatest memory though was that it was the location I proposed to my wife, but alas the place is no more and now they have only the karaoke bars on the other side of the building full of girls trying to attract men in to their bar to do whatever it is they do. I consider it a shameful loss.

it's not just about singing alone, you get to meet new friends who share the same interest so there is always something to talk about like the type of song and singer each prefer . .

While by you nick, I can sense that you are from the middle age group... oldies but goodies ya . . .
