Singapore Expats

Hi everyone,

I have submitted my PR application on 09 jun 2012 and today I received a letter from ICA state that
"We regret to inform you that your application has not been successful.
You way wish to re-submit another application for our consideration in 1 year's time."

What should I do next? and is this a good sign?
Please help!

Why not post here your credentials, then others can better judge the merits of your application.

JR8, here's my profile:

1. Malaysian, chinese, 25yo, single, male, degree holder;
2. Currently working at a MNC since jun 2011 in Singapore;
3. EP Q1 holder;
4. Income 40k p.a.

You have a good chance. But like we've said here on countless occasions, if you bothered to do some research on this forum, you should wait a minimum of two years or three tax submissions before applying for PR. At least they are telling you to wait the additional year, that's a good sign. The other letter says you are welcome to stay and work here but you are not suitable for PR. Be thankful you only have to wait.

Did this single line do the trick for the OP...relatively... since he didn't get the dreaded "You are welcome to stay in your relevant EP......" ? Seems like ethnicity is the BIGGEST factor for success of PR application of late.

Popeyefan, you've been on this board for a year now. Surely you know the answer to that one. The only boxes that aren't ticked correctly at the moment is 3 years tax returns, but even then, with two might do. No seems about it. It IS the biggest factor. The gahmen are doing all they can to right the demographics (well, I wouldn't call it right, but in the Chinese majority who govern the country, it's right in their eyes).

Having said that, they also will not reject somebody due to ethnicity IF they are bringing something exceptional to the table that the gahmen wants/needs. They are still pragmatic.

So I could apply for PR on 1st November as that will be 6 months from my employment start date. I was going to do just that until I read the forum comments about how important it is to have paid tax here.

Any chance I could get away with applying after only paying my 2012 tax at the end of this year?

Moved here in part to satisfy the EDB's requirements my company needs to get tax breaks and incentive payments and they seemed pretty excited about my appointment.

How much influence does the EDB have over the granting of PR's?

None that I'm aware of. But that doesn't mean anything as ICA does NOT reveal their sources, data input conduits, or weightage of any of the data. However, your application after only 6 months of employement would be looked at with a rather jaundiced eye I would expect, as you wouldn't have had enough time here to make a long term decision like that - unless you are only looking at the abuse PR aspect of it. (I'm not say this is your thought processes, but, if I were an immigration officer, it would be the first thing I would suspect, especially as you are non-Asian).

Personally, I would wait at least until after your EP was renewed the first time. There is nothing stopping you after 6 months but don't get discourage if you are told to wait two years as that happens more times than not.

If I was not quite clear I am employed by a global company so trying to get PR is not linked to my employers aspirations for government grants! I have no intention of moving back to the UK or anywhere else I would like to settle here in Singapore

Valuable advice though thank you. Maybe I will give it a try after paying my first tax bill and see what happens. If I have to wait so be it.
