Singapore Expats

hi. many thanks in advance.
actually almost 10 days passed after i left my post here..
and started to figure out how hard and horrible to land on job in singapore.

only 2 years in big accounting firm(Ernst & Young in korea) and 3 years in government(as a finantial analyst) are all i have.

to be frankly,
i`ve submitted over 200 resumes to companies
and only got 2 calls, one of them mistook me for PR holder.

so in a desperate need,
feel sorry but ask for more detailed and tailored advice here!

1. almost a month passed and did get the notice for interview in Big 4.
does it mean i`m rejected or do i have to wait more?.

2. the last thing i wanna do is to go to korea company. but a few years experience of korea company in singapore will be better path to land on singapore?.

Not to offend you . .is your resume in the same flowing English as your post here ??

ecureilx has a point.

How is your resume written? Did you also provide a cover letter? What language did you use to get your jobs in Korea? Get someone to go over your resume (note: NOT HERE) to check for errors and grammar.

actually, salary the company sugested is decreased 20% compared to previous salary. i just think because it`s middle tier firm.

so next week, i wanna do all the things i can do.
and is it good idea to call big 4 directly?...

You do realize, you will be a virtual slave in a big four organization. The hours you have to work would kill an ox. Not to much remuneration either from what I've been told. You are supposed to look at it as a gift from dog that you are allowed to work there. BS as far as I'm concerned.

I think the Big 4 is a great training ground and good for your CV. The reason why they work you to death for a relatively low salary is the “carrot”

I also know a few who did it for a couple of years. They got out of the whole industry, it soured them so much. So, Good Luck.

I think they must have just had a very bad experience.

I don't know any senior Finance person in a MNC who hasn't had time with the Big 4. I know there will be some, but it will certainly be a minority.

The Big 4 is tough in Singapore, much harder work than the UK, but it can also be a lot of fun. I look back on those days with some affection and am still friends with many of the people. Of my batch of friends, all are now in good roles (Finance, M&A, Risk, IA etc.) with banks and MNCs, and none are unemployed.

i wanna give you guys good news.. like i finally landed on the job...
but.. obviously failed in all of the applications.

but I will never give up till i find the right one.
only two months passed and looks not enough time.

Err... congratulations. At least you've got a job. But did you mean that you've got a different type of job?

no not yet.
Still looking for a job and looks pretty tough. Haha!!
But at the same time ive learned lots of something intangible..
like patience, interview skill, value of work etc.
Anyway thank for ur congratulation.^^

Err... congratulations. At least you've got a job. But did you mean that you've got a different type of job?

I think he meant to say that he wished he was able to give good news, like for instance that he had found a job, but unfortunately he has been unsuccessful.

Chantae - good luck finding a job. Be persistent and go through the process of identifying where you went wrong and make sure you improve on it next time around.
