For the benefit of the anglophones... Alliance Francaise (Newton MRT, 1 Sarkies Rd) is a good place to start. French Toast is another good school.
Though AF has regular cultural activities. You could sign up as a member (w/o learning french formally) - i.e Learn as you mingle with the french.
I'm a student for a year and a half and I reaching A2 level. That's still very basal, but it's sufficient to converse decently.
1. French Movies $8 every Tuesday there, 8pm (depends on date so check the lien magazine)
2. French Singing Classes Free for public, Saturday, 1pm
3. Weekends, we hang out at restaurants/cafés?
A bientot. going on 20 and going to France for a holiday and perhaps even for exchange programs and postgrad studies
