Singapore Expats

I have a valid drivers license from India since 2001 and now trying to convert to Singapore license. Passed the basic theory test recently, however the person at the counter denied me conversion when approached. She asked me to go for advanced theory and practical exams in SG, which is a waste of money and time. The Indian license is valid, easy to be verified online and I even have an international driving permit to prove that my original license is legitimate. Any suggestions as to how to proceed ?

That's weird.

IIRC, there is nothing mentioned about Indian nationals with valid driving license need to take the full tests. I hope that person behind the counter made a mistake. Have you tried confirming with SPF or LTA or even the driving centre over the phone?

They said that the bar code is not getting recognized....The fact remains that it will take anyone with an internet access about 1 min to verify online- only require the license number and DOB of the individual.

Having seen the driving in India, I can understand it!

However, do remember that the tellers in these places have processes, if you don't fit in the process then they have a catch all.

Totally agree on your comment, I am not proud of the driving skills that many of my fellow countrymen have....My case it bit different though, as I also held valid licenses in the US & Europe during my several years of stay there..just that they are now expired

Fair enough! I am sure your driving is of better quality than your fellow countrymen, to be honest, it's a bit cheeky if they are smiting your driving ability, the Singaporeans are hardly the best drivers in the world!

This leads to my follow up question.... Why on earth would you want to drive in Singapore!?

I feel most drivers in India have vastly superior driving skills to those in Singapore. See, the Indian drivers there are acutely aware of what they're doing and the crazy shit they're pulling. Drivers in Singapore are blur and have no concept or awareness of anything happening around them, and drive like that.

That's fair comment, however, they still don't drive safely.

I'd have to agree, but then again, guys driving around in a circle and 330km/hr isn't driving safely either. But we pay to watch them do it!

Well that's a new one.. Did you check with them if ur license is of the latest format? For eg many states in India have now upgraded to the smart card format, so if ur from one of those states u might have to covert the Indian license to the smart card one first.
