Singapore Expats

Hi all, first post here.

My boss has recently approached me and asked if I would be interested in moving to Singapore to expand the business in the Asia and pacific region.

I have been looking at rental prices so I can see if the package he is offering is suitable for the area I would like to live. The problem is I'm not too sure what area to be looking at, and therefore cannot get a rough idea of prices.

I am a 27 year old single male looking to live in a vibrant area with plenty of bars/restaurants/entertainment nearby, generally with the the bustling city "vibe" and contemporary accommodation.

Can anyone recommend any areas that could be suitable?

Reckon on baseline $5k a month rent.

+ $250/day for whores and general upkeep.

That should be ok. (sorted me for several years)

Give up the "contemporary accommodation" part and you can live in Geylang for about $2k/month (without roommates) and $30-$150/day for the whores.

Initially I thought it a throw-away comment and was trying mentally to disprove it.

But I can't think of another large city that gives me so little 'sense of wow!' ...

Hmm. Maybe I should think against the move then. Do you guys still live there? If so, surely it has something that has made you stay? Or is it purely work commitments?

I think I might be the only regular who is temporarily out of Singapore (I think 'Beppi' might be too). But I'm pretty nomadic... currently on my 5th country.

The draw of SG for me initially was career progression (small fish in big pond, to big fish in small pond in the blink of an eye), fat salary plus I'd long had a thing for Asia.

There is quite a lot of dry and mock-jaundiced humour here, but don't let it put you off for one moment!

As JR8 and I'm sure many others would say, it's worth at least trying it out.

Here for work, drawn to Asia for various reasons. It is quite soulless compared to most "happening" cities its size, but it's still quite better than most other places you could be. I guess it depends on your expectations and where you're coming from. Plenty of folk may be quite "wowed" by the "vibe" of just Clark Quay, River Valley, and Orchard Rd.

Coming from Oslo, it's definitely much more happening in terms of vibe.

It depends more on where you live now and what your expectations are than anything else.

Coming from Jakarta, I will say fat salary and security. Plus, the work ethics are slightly better
