Singapore Expats

Singapore is my second home and I'm considering applying for PR. There are a number of things I think are in my favour, but could also be against. I'm wondering when is the best time to apply for PR (I'm thinking mid next year... but all these cut downs on foreign talents are getting me a bit nervous). I've been reluctant to post on here for the past few months because I think I know what the feedback is going to be, but anyway.

Profile:
1. UK born and bred. Half English and Half Singaporean.
2. Singaporean mother. Said mother gave up her citizenship around 35 years ago when it was advised (DOH) and has regretted it ever since.
3. Single 24 year old female.
4. UK educated with degree.
5. Came here essentially as a fresh grad over a year ago.
6. Brother also living and working here, along with many Aunties and Uncles (real ones ) cousins and my Ah-Mah.

I realise it's not the strongest profile in the world, but like I said Singapore was always my second home and I have no desire to go back to the UK. From what I've been reading here the UK hasn't had much luck recently... so let me down gently. What are your thoughts?

Also, Singaporeans means little currently. Is your "half" Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, or "other"?

Yeah I could wait I guess. I have heard that's obviously better and strengthens your case.

You didn't answer the $$$ question. That's much more important than ancestry (Although your roots won't hurt, that's for sure)

Perhaps her skills are important as well. If her skills are not that special, then $$$ range is the only thing left.

To answer your previous questions! I work in Recruitment and am a specialist Consultant in the Creative sector, coming from the Creative industry myself. Right now my salary is in the $30-40k range, plus whatever commissions I've made for myself. As of July my base will be in the $50-60k range, and I have a supporting document to confirm this.

Actually, I've got quite a lot of supporting documents - are they quite open to this? A covering letter, my bank statements, pay slips, insurance policy, testimonials from my family...

The only more serious question mark I could think about is your mother renouncement. The rest looks ok - you are de facto Malaysian Chinese at least in some part what IMHO is a strong pro. Don't miss this point selling yourself. What race you call yourself in the document? Hope not Caucasian.

Thanks. Yeah I really played my heritage card in my covering letter. I mean at the end of the day I really do want to be here, so I just emphasized that as much as possible.

Well! I have submitted all my documents. My advice to everyone applying is to prepare - couldn't believe the amount of people forgetting to copy this, or forgetting a photo. I've had 5 months to prepare!

Firstly, hope joannajane doesn't mind me tagging along this thread to ask about my chances of successful PR application. This forum has been a great source of information on Citizenship, PR and Passes applications.

I'm currently on a PEP which is valid until 2015. I've been living in Singapore for the last 4 years. My profile is as follow:

Nationality: Malaysian
Highest Education: MBA
Marital Status: Married (wife is a degree holder)
Job Title: Director
Salary: Exceeds current PEP salary requirement

If both you and your wife are M'sian Chinese, it should be a walk-through with no problems at all, i would think.

one of my earlier posts made mentioned of a friend who got her PR after 1 month of apps. her role wasn't director and she was on EP. but her salary prob was the express trigger point. that said, why not give it a shot. quite a number of m'asian (chinese) peeps i know got their PR in a relatively short time. that too, with salaries nearly 90% of what she earns.
