Hi Friends

I am foreigner and living in Singapore with my husband. My husband is a EP holder working in a IT firm.

Currently am pregnant (3rd month) and planning to deliver the baby in Singapore. I am yet to go for my first checkup in Singapore. Need your valuable suggestions regarding below points:

1. Please suggest me which hospital would be best for me (am being in Dependent Pass).

2. What would be the rough cost for the entire prior delivery checkups, scans, medicines and Delivery?

3. Will there be any concession in the costs if get the referal of the hospital from my near by polyclinic?

4. What paper works do we need to do after the babies birth?

Please share your experience and suggestion. Thank you

congrats. all hospitals in singapore have a "package" for pregnant women, but sometimes do not include consultation costs.

surf their websites and then call them up. you'll get all your answers. you may also ask to visit the facility.

as for costs, it would only be a ball park figure - usually approximate amount if there are no complications or other unexpected situations.

Dont forget to check the legal status of your baby, ie what passports etc they are entitled to.

Congratulations and hope your pregnancy is going well.

My husband is also on EP and I am on a DP and had a baby in Singapore last year. I delivered in Thomson medical and thought it was very good. Total cost was about $12000 for an uncomplicated delivery and 3 night stay. A few of our friends delivered at Mt Elizabeth and also thought it was ok.

My obstetrician was TC Chang and I can certainly recommend him (but have not tried any others!)

With regard to the paperwork, it will depend where you are from and what citezenship you want for your baby. We are from Australia and had to:
1. Get the birth certificate from the hospital
2. Arrange Australian citizenship with the Australian embassy
3. Get a passport for the baby (also through the embassy)
4. Get a DP for the baby. This is meant to be done within 42 days of the birth, so start doing the other things as early as possible.

I have opted for KK Womens hospital and got an appointment with Dr. Mariam on 27th Dec.

Is any body know what are the document work needed to be done for an Indian origin. I assume the document work to be initiated after the child's birth.

The High Commission, when issuing a birth certificate to children born in Singapore of Indian parents, will also register the birth of the child.

BTW, KK staff can advice you on this, since you are signed up there .. ask them, if you have doubts ..
