Hi everyone,

just thought i would say a short hello to everyone as i am for sure the newest person on here! :) i am working on our relocation to Singapore in March and wanted to ask a couple of basic questions regarding living in Singapore.

I am currently looking for an apartment for my family to move into starting from either April 1 or May 1... we are looking at either district 3, 10, 11 and i wanted to throw a couple of names out regarding apartments and areas...

does anyone have any experience with the Alexis and / or Iridium apartments/icondo's ? is it an ok place to live or not really... any tips would be greatly appreciated...

regarding District 11 we are considering Shelford Suites or Shelford 23...

if anyone has any experience or knowledge every little bit would help.

thank you very much,

Shamus

we have a housing allowance of 4.7000SGD but are of course willling to go a little higher if necessary...

The "district" system was abolished before I first moved to Singapore in 1996.
Only some backward property agents are still using it!

"small."

but i like the location. it may work if you have a car and don't have a family bigger than 2 (or 3).

First thing I'd say is why D. 3/10/11? Be careful not to rush to live right in the middle just because it lends a sense of security amongst the unknown. No offense, it's an easy trap, and one I've felt secure with before. But you will get a lot more space, and value for money if you just move a little out of the central-hubba.

Considerations. Work commute/s, children's school (if any/rqd). Facilities required, pool etc (on Mount Sophia I viewed a condo with a perhaps 10*5m pool!, that cost more than a condo in Toa Payoh with a full-on maybe 40-50*25m pool.

Thanks very much for the responses to my inquiry, greatly appreciated...i had chance to look at some of the places today at Alexis and also Shelford 23... Unfortunately, Alexis did not do anything for me... as you said Taxico, they are quite small and as we have 2 4 month old twins, the layout of the apartment is not very convenient... However, I really liked Shelford 23... nice quiet atmosphere, nice apartment... i think the lower style condo's are more my style so i may now start to look a little more outside of the central areas to see what i can find, thanks very much for the advice JR8!

I am going to be working in the west so i may start to look at something in this direction... main consideration is the proximity of the MRT for wife and kids as well as some shopping possibilities... no school is needed at the moment...

thanks again for the help and if i have any further questions i will follow up on this post.

Cheers
